SPOKANE  — Sportsmen will get fewer opportunities to kill antlerless elk from the Mount St. Helens, Yakima and Colockum herds in the fall of 2017.

The Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission has adopted 2017-18 hunting season rules and permit levels.

Almost 180 fewer antlerless permits will be available in the Winston, Margaret, Toutle, Lewis River and Coweeman units combined spread over modern firearms, archery, muzzleloader and youth hunters.

Hunter harvest levels for deer and elk were reduced for several areas of the state, especially Eastern Washington, due to the harsh winter in 2016-17.

The big-game hunting regulations rules and permit levels will be available at license vendors and Department of Fish and Wildlife offices statewide later this month, plus online at http://wdw.wa.gov/hunting/regulations.
