Letter: Trump’s fake news is dangerous

I am writing about the April 14 Associated Press story “FBI chief: Public should know of agenda-driven fake news.”

FBI Director James Comey is warning Americans about foreign efforts to undermine “faith in our democratic processes” by the introduction of fake news. I believe a bigger danger is the fake news coming from our own government, particularly the president. From the gross exaggerations of the crowd at his inauguration, to his promise to fix health care, and his promise to return coal mining jobs, he is trying to influence how Americans think by using fake news.

His restrictions on scientific research by government agencies such as the Environmental Protection Agency are another example. His labeling of Mexican immigrants as rapists and criminals is still another. There may be some danger of fake news from foreign sources. But of more danger is the homegrown fake news.
