An Oregon motorcyclist was killed in a crash on Interstate 5 in Ridgefield Friday morning.

Larry Delker, 67, of Canby, Ore., was driving a 2014 FHX motorcycle north on I-5 in the right lane when he slowed for traffic just after 11 a.m., according to Washington State Patrol.

A northbound 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee towing a boat on a trailer failed to slow for traffic and struck the motorcycle, troopers reported.

Delker was ejected and landed in the center lane, Trooper Will Finn said.

He was conscious and breathing when emergency personnel arrived, but died at a hospital a few hours later, Finn said.

The driver of the Jeep, Richard Heitzenrader, 69, of Ridgefield was not injured. He is cooperating with troopers, Finn said, and a drug recognition expert is working to evaluate if Heitzenrader was impaired at the time of the crash.

Troopers said the crash was caused by inattention, but charges in the case are pending and the investigation is ongoing.
