Letter: Protect Planned Parenthood

By Calvin Stroop, VANCOUVER

Homeless young women are nearly five times more likely to become pregnant and more likely to experience multiple pregnancies. These babies who lack prenatal care add to an already strained health care system and are more likely to become poverty stricken. On any single night during 2015, there were about 37,000 unaccompanied and homeless youth roaming the streets of the United States. These are only a part of the 2.5 million Americans who depend on Planned Parenthood.

Other countries also depend on Planned Parenthood, where shortages of contraception and prenatal care are even more acute.

The next time you are in a traffic jam consider the benefits of contraception and do not fall for the damnable lie that the majority of what Planned Parenthood does is provide for abortions. Remember that what happened to ACORN, an organization designed to help ease many of the social issues of the poor, can happen to Planned Parenthood.

Also remember, “To whom much is given much is expected.”
