Letter: Consider multiple perspectives

All presidents lie. After watching the political scene for 65 years and studying past history and evolving history, some presidential lies have been colossal; some have been “fibs.” President Eisenhower lied about U-2 flights over Russia, even after one was shot down. Famous big liars include Wilson, Truman, Kennedy, Nixon, Reagan, Clinton, the Bush hierarchy, and others.

Now we are enduring the Trump lies. As of Feb. 26, Huffington Post counted 100 of them. As liars rate, he “out lied” any and all previous presidents. What to do?

There are many conservative (Republican) newspapers. If you prefer TV, Fox News is a leader. On the web, a short search will get almost unlimited sites. If you have a liberal view, try New York World, Chicago Democrat, and The Morning News. If TV is your source for liberal news, MSNBC generally fills the bill.

By comparing the same story from two or more viewpoints, we can usually arrive at an “educated” consensus. All information is subject to our emotional response, comparison with past events, and hopes for the future. The efforts of the reporters and journalists to keep us informed has never been more important.

Our Founding Fathers knew the importance of freedom of religion, speech and the press, writing the First Amendment to protect these rights forever.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
