Letter: I-5 Bridge not best solution

By Jeff Chandler, Vancouver

I can understand replacing the bridge from a safety standpoint; it is quite old, after all, but not from a traffic flow point of view. We’ll still have the Moda Center block. Witness the weekend repairs in the Morrison Bridge vicinity — it took us almost three hours to get to Corvallis.

The only sensible solution is one or two more bridges, unless you want to double-decker I-5 through Portland. Talk about spendy! Whatever happened to the proposed bypass freeways shown on the old maps? One was west of I-5 and one was east. Just sayin’.
