Prep roundup: Prairie rallies again, from six down to beat Kelso

Falcons solidify their hold on fourth place with 10-8 victory

For the second day, the Prairie baseball rallied from a big deficit to improve the Falcons’ playoff standing, while hurting Kelso’s standing in the 3A Greater St. Helens League.

Logan Jones was 3 for 5 with five RBI and Greg Bernash pitched five solid innings of relief as the Falcons erased a six-run deficit to beat Kelso 10-8 on Saturday.

Kelso led 7-1 after scoring four runs in the top of the third. Prairie rallied to take the lead with a six-run fourth, capped by Jones’ three-run double.

After Kelso tied the game 8-8 in the top of the sixth, Jones started a two-run rally in the bottom of the inning with a one-out single. He later scored the go-ahead run on an error.

Bernash allowed one unearned run on two hits over five innings of relief with 10 strikeouts. He also went 2 for 4 with three runs. Bryton Hall was 3 for 3 with a double.

Columbia River 15, Woodland 4 — Gavin Manheimer was 4 for 5 with three runs, two doubles and an RBI, and Paul Meister was 3 for 4 with two doubles and 5 RBI for the Chieftains, who improved to 4-3 in the 2A GSHL.

River is in third place in the league with five league games to play.

Ridgefield 7, Washougal 2 — Spencer Andersen pitched five innings of scoreless relief to earn the win for the Spudders.

Ridgefield moved ahead of Washougal into fourth place in the 2A GSHL with a 4-4 league mark.

Kellen Bringhurst was 3 for 5 with a double and RBI, and Kevin Miser and Boston Clark both went 2 for 4.

Hockinson 13, Woodland 3 — Zach Ristau went 3 for 3 with two runs and five RBI as the Hawks won their second game of the day to pull within percentage points of R.A. Long for first place in the 2A GSHL.

The wins improved Hockinson to 7-3 in league. R.A. Long is 6-2. The Hawks host the Lumberjacks on Tuesday.

Matt Henry went 2 for 4 with two runs, a triple and four RBI. He pitched six innings for the win. Noah Stecher was 2 for 2, and Colton Wheeler was 2 for 4 with a double.

Hockinson 2, Mark Morris 1 — Niko Niehaus threw a complete with three strikeouts for the Hawks, supported by RBI doubles by Matt Henry and Zac Ristau.

Boys soccer

Ridgefield 3, Mark Morris 2 — Jason Osborn, Andrew Williams and Travis Gottsch scored goals for the Spudders to locked up second place in the 2A GSHL.

The win improved Ridgefield to 8-3 in league, 1 1/2 games ahead of third-place R.A. Long. The Lumberjacks can, at best, tie Ridgefield, but the Spudders swept the head-to-head series over the R.A. Long.

Columbia River 3, Washougal 0 — Jake Connop scored two more goals, giving the freshman 15 on the season for the first-place Chieftains.

River (14-0-1, 11-0 2A GSHL) has already clinched the league title and No. 1 seed to the district tournament, which starts Saturday.

Woodland 2, R.A. Long 1, OT — The Beavers’ Trent Snead scored the winning goal in with about a 1 1/2 minutes to play in the second overtime period to beat the Lumberjacks.

Softball

Hockinson 2, Woodland 0 — Abby Runyon threw a three-hit shutout and Amber Griffith hit a home run for the Hawks.

Battle Ground 14, Skyview 2 — Alexis Morrison and Brianna Adams hit grand slams for the Tigers. Morrison finished 2 for 3 with a double and five RBI. Adams was 2 for 3 with three runs.
