The tragic story of Rob Ramsay took another heartbreaking turn last week.

Ramsay was a Mountain View High School graduate and Washington State standout who pitched two seasons (1999-2000) for the Seattle Mariners before his career was ended by a brain tumor. Rob Ramsay died year ago, on Aug. 4, 2016, of brain cancer.

Ramsay was survived by his wife Samantha and his two sons.

Last weekend, Samantha Ramsay, an associate professor of nutrition at the University of Idaho, died after being struck by lightning while mountain climbing in the Swiss Alps.

Samantha, 41, “was the most alive person I ever knew,” family friend Shawn O’Neal told the Moscow-Pullman Daily News. “She and Rob both were. … She was the kind of mom that wanted her kids to be like her, to be active and always doing something,”

A GoFundMe account has been started to help the Ramsay boys Ryan, 12, and Reider, 9. As of Thursday night, more than $6,000 had been raised to the goal of $50,000. Contributions can be made at www.gofundme.com/47zev9k.
