Letter: Israel aggressive, not defensive

In his Aug. 3 letter, “Israel is protecting itself,” Joel Littauer claims that Israel is justified in its occupation to protect itself. The Palestinian people have only known occupation, and before Zionism, it was the British.

During World War II, the British would allow a Jewish brigade into Palestine and thereby provide the Zionist an army at the end of World War II and the signing of Resolution 181. By all measure, the Jews had lived in harmony with the Arab world for thousands of years, and the United States didn’t have any enemies in the Middle East until the signing of Resolution 181.

The future Israel Defense Force wasn’t put in place to protect itself, it was put in place to take what didn’t belong to them. The U.N. brought the terror to the Palestinian people, who don’t have an army and have few ways to protect themselves. Even today, Israel continues to take homes and property from the Palestinian people.

It was religious intolerance and arrogance that turned innocent Jewish people into the baby killers who needed to be locked up behind the walled ghettos of Rome, and the same thing happens in Gaza today.
