By next summer, the views from here could be among the most prized in Vancouver.

General contractor Robertson & Olson recently started pouring the foundation underneath Blocks 6 and 8 at The Waterfront Vancouver, the $1.5 billion project to turn a former paper-mill site into a district of apartments, office towers and restaurants.

The sites are construction pits at the moment, but Block 6 is expected to support a seven-story office tower and six stories of luxury apartments with 63 units. Block 8, a 48,000-square-foot plot, is slated to house apartments and retail buildings. Underground parking will be included.

Announced tenants include M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust, Cascade Sotheby’s International Realty and MidiCi Neapolitan Pizza.

Columbia Waterfront LLC, the group of private investors leading the waterfront development, received a $42.5 million loan from U.S. Bank for this project in June.
