Letter: Rethink abortion policy

By Carol Thomas, WASHOUGAL

I wholeheartedly agree with Beth Johnson regarding her Aug. 24 letter, “Oregon policy is objectionable,” regarding abortions.

To make it easier for women to have abortions without any counseling is not right. Many women think that the tiny life inside them is not a real person yet. But what if you knew that might be a great person someday? Would you still abort?

I think of a woman, Pamela Tebow, who was a missionary in the Philippines. She was very ill and the doctors told her she might die unless she aborted the baby. She refused to do that. And when her tiny son, Tim, was born 30 years ago, would she ever realize he would be a strong young man, an athlete in football and baseball, and also believe in God?

I also admire Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, who was told that her first child probably would not survive the birth. She had strong convictions about aborting her fetus and ensuring that her baby would not only live, but be a testimony to other mothers. I admire these women greatly.
