Letter: In defense of Roy Moore

By Stephen Franklin White, VANCOUVER
Published: December 1, 2017, 6:00am

Alabama Judge Roy Moore is being treated unfairly. He’s being portrayed as a Clinton or a Weinstein, when he did nothing of the sort. Allegations against them were far more serious and involved coworkers where there was not a romantic relationship. None of that occurred with Moore, even if the worst statements from the gals are believed. Moore was an unmarried person who had dating relationships with the gals. Dating relationships should remain private. They are complex and each party often blames problems on the other.

In many states, young girls can get married with parental and judicial consent. And 40 years ago, it was far more common. Not only was Moore in proper relationships, but the most extreme charge against him is that he touched the outside of clothes. Allegations against real sex abusers involve far more serious charges, including rape.

Moore’s private affairs never should have been made public. The real issue is, why is The Washington Post, under the ownership of Jeff Bezos, behaving so poorly? Moore is strongly supported by prominent Christians. He is not a liar nor an immoral person. Bezos is the richest person in the world but is very poor when it comes to ethics.
