Letter: Officials should pay the price

I recently read in The Columbian that our government has a fund set aside for bad behavior payouts. Our tax dollars have paid out millions of dollars for bad behavior within our governments.

Why is a slush fund set up for bad behavior? Why is it necessary for our tax dollars to do the payoffs? The offender should have to do the payout from his or her pocket and lose their job. We elected them to represent us with good behavior. I also found that cities around the country have the same type of slush fund set up to pay off bad behavior. This type of behavior payoff should not come from taxpayers’ money. Our elected officials and appointed officials need to keep their zippers up and hands to themselves.
