Letter: Tax plan is an abomination

The Republican tax proposal gives billions of dollars to the top 1 percent of this country while taking money away from the 99 percent of us who work hard and try to survive on what we earn honestly.

The wealthy have to take responsibility for supporting this country through taxes. Sixty years ago the American economy and industry were booming, the middle class was thriving, and the wealthiest paid over 70 percent of their income to the U.S. Treasury (taxfoundation.org). Giving money to the wealthy while taking money from hard-working middle-class and poor Americans is wrong, irresponsible, and reprehensible!

President Trump is a tax dodger. The alternative minimum tax is essential to keep tax dodgers from avoiding income tax. I am a business owner — the huge tax credits that Trump wants to give himself and other businesses and corporations are ridiculous. Tweak the business tax code if you must, but don’t try to delude yourself that unemployment will go much lower because you are giving middle-class tax dollars to CEOs of corporations. That is folly! They would be filling the pockets of millionaires with my hard-earned income.
