SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Dozens of Symantec employees in the Springfield area have learned they will be laid off next month as the cyber-security firm begins a sharp reduction of its local workforce.

The Register-Guard reported that the last day for 64 employees in Jan. 17 and two more will be done on Jan. 26.

Symantec announced in October that it would cut its local workforce, but it didn’t provide any numbers. It hasn’t said how many workers it will keep in Springfield or if it will close the site.

California-based Symantec, a computer software and cybersecurity company, employed a peak of about 1,400 people at its Gateway campus in 2007.

Since then, the site has shrunk amid corporate and now has about 700 to 800 employees.
