Mount Vista — The Gardner School of Arts & Sciences teamed up with the Clark County Food Bank for a day of volunteering and education on Nov. 21. The partnership was part of the school’s GardenReach project, where all elementary and middle school students spent their afternoon volunteering at the food bank repacking food for distribution. Prior to their visit, the students learned about food insecurity and held a week-long food drive, collecting 445 pounds of shelf-stable food and 11 pounds of fresh produce for the food bank. The project continues the partnership that started two years ago when the school started donating summer garden harvest to the food bank. As part of their curriculum, students have been harvesting, weighing and donating between 75 and 100 pounds of fresh produce a year.
