Letter: Herrera Beutler fails on tax bill

Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler’s support for President Trump’s flawed tax reform bill is perplexing and deeply disappointing.

Why give corporations a permanent tax cut and the rest of us one that expires?

Why give the wealthiest Americans 80 percent of the benefits and the rest of us the short end of the stick? Why does the 1 percent get a $5 billion cut while those making $20,000 to $40,000 per year pay a similar amount in increased taxes over the next 10 years? Why strip health insurance from millions of families who rely on the Affordable Care Act to protect the health of their loved ones?

Why does Trump say that he will not benefit from his tax bill when it is clear his family stands to reap millions in tax savings? Finally, why does our congresswoman fail to stand up for those of us who truly need tax relief in favor of those who really do not?
