I appreciated The Columbian’s Nov. 29 editorial, “Make Case for Annexation — Vancouver officials should next build convincing argument for residents.”
I live outside the city, but where I live would seem a prime area for annexation. But, as the editorial points out, this is not 1950, when the purpose of annexation was to take urban services to areas without them. Today one has to ask: What would I gain by annexation? Consider:
• I already get my sewer and water from Vancouver.
• Fire protection is provided by a fire district.
• Battle Ground is my school district; that won’t change.
• I have representation by the county council.
• For the most part, planning policies are the same between the city and county.
• My address is already “Vancouver.”
I could go on, but my point is: What would change if I were to be annexed into the city of Vancouver and how would that be an advantage?
The city will have to make a case as to the advantages of being annexed to them.
