Letter: Herrera Beutler response falls short

This is in response to the letter from Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, “Herrera Beutler responds” (Dec. 3, Our Readers’ Views).

Yes, in fact, I am one who got a response from her after I wrote to her expressing my concerns about many aspects of the House version of the tax reform bill. However, her response was apparently a “canned” response to anyone who questions the wisdom of cutting taxes for the super-rich.

I felt that her response insults the intelligence of both of us — her, for claiming to believe it, and me, in that she expected me to believe it. It may have qualified in her mind as a response to a constituent; however, it was in no way a response to the issues I raised.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
