Portland — A tree fell into a Corbett house late Sunday, and a woman was impaled by a branch, authorities said.

The woman, 65, was taken to a hospital. Responders found her alert and conscious inside the house, the local fire department said in a news release. She had a limb in her lower torso, according to the agency.

The house is on East Knieriem Road, according to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s office.

The incident came hours before authorities announced a closure of the Historic Columbia River Highway between Larch Mountain Road and Bridal Veil because trees and other debris were blocking the highway.

The 6-mile stretch of highway reopened well before sunrise Monday but is down to one lane in some areas, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation. Workers will resume cleanup efforts later Monday, the agency said.

East winds have downed trees along Corbett Hill Road, as well, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
