Letter: Tax plan helps working families

All the recent letters bashing the proposed tax reform plan seem to be written by retired seniors. This may reflect the demographics of the newspaper readers.

However, as a working family earning the median wage in Clark County ($65,000), the tax plan looks great. By doubling the standard deduction we save more money than deducting mortgage interests, medical expenses and state and local tax. It is not even close.

This extra money we can spend with local companies to upgrade our house and cars. In addition, the plan looks to benefit our stock-based 401(k), helping our retirement plans. All our working friends, both Democrat and Republican, agree with this assessment. It would be good to see an actual fact-based comparison of the effects of the new tax plan based on the majority of working families.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
