Camas felt like it needed a big win to validate its hot 6-0 start.

It got one against a ranked 4A side.

The Papermakers used a big third quarter to propel past Curtis, the team it lost to last season in the district playoffs, in the Curtis Winter Classic.

Typically offensively potent, Carson Bonine and Treton Carlisle were held scoreless in the first half and Camas trailed by two at the midway point.

Then Bonine hit three 3s as part of a third quarter that the Papermakers outscored Curtis 24-12.

Camas was held to six points in the fourth as Curtis closed in, but the papermakers staved off the comeback.

Ben Cooke finished with 18 points and Isaiah Sampson had 12 points and 11 boards for Camas.

“We did a good job scoring with their pressure with a lot of tough individual plays,” Camas coach Ryan Josephson said.
