Vancouver – Kathy Gillespie will not run for a third term on the Vancouver Public Schools Board of Directors, she told The Columbian on Friday.

Gillespie, whose children attended Vancouver Public Schools campuses, spent eight years on the school board.

“I’ve always said I would serve two terms, while my children were enrolled in our schools, and then retire so another person could step forward,” Gillespie said. “I’m really proud of our work and hope to see many step forward to compete for the honor of serving VPS students and families.”

Gillespie ran as an Independent Democrat against Rep. Liz Pike, R-Camas, for her seat in the 18th Legislative District last year. Pike won with 56.82 percent of the 71,019 votes.
