Letter: Pay for your share of the bridge

I see that some Southwest Washington legislators are exploring reviving the I-5 Bridge issue. I live in Portland, close to I-5 and near Hayden Island. During rush hours (twice each day), I have difficulty getting out of my neighborhood because the freeway on-ramps are backed up onto the local streets.

When I go to the MAX stations at Expo Center and Delta Park, they are often filled with cars with Washington license plates. It is very irritating that these issues are caused by “out of staters” who have refused to pay for a new bridge. Recently I have talked with some Portland-area legislators about reviving the idea of tolls on the Oregon side. This idea would force Washingtonians, who are the cause of the issues, to pay their fair share. This idea is getting more consideration than it did last time around.

Here is the bottom line: Pay your fair share of the bridge or stay home.
