Letter: Comment was out of line

Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences, especially when highly visible communitarians (such as an “ambassador”) are involved.

As a former resident of your community, I wish to be counted among the many who are outraged by public comments of John Cozzi Jr., an ambassador for the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce. On Facebook recently, Cozzi advocated that undocumented immigrants be “shot on sight.”

Even if he retracts the statement and apologizes, this is one bell that cannot be unrung.
