Letter: Trump is on dangerous path

What would it take to turn the U.S. into a dictatorship?

Select a president that has name/face recognition, money, a large ego and who is not too smart.

Establish a majority Congress that reflects the desires of the president. If they’re sufficiently cowardly, the president won’t have to use his veto authority.

Find an ongoing problem that can be used as a lightning rod to anger the people sufficiently so they’ll demand reprisals against someone, a group, or their religion.

Unilaterally start a war with a weaker enemy who can be attacked and all society’s problems can be blamed upon.

Establish a political and financial base with wealthy citizens and industries, giving them favors, tax cuts and special treatment for undying loyalty and campaign contributions.

Stack the Supreme Court with opinions reflecting those of the president.

Tell lies often so that they become the truth.

Establish a process where the president can sign a bill and then write his own interpretation.

Alienate our historic allies and friends.

Any criticism will be met with instant and vigorous attacks and the persons’ patriotism and courage will be questioned.

Incompetence of the Cabinet and staff is tolerated providing they are loyal.

If any candidate attempts to run against the incumbent, he/she will be attacked with every lie and dirty trick available.

Anything sound familiar?
