Letter: Recreation costs keep going up

It is a shame that Vancouver Parks and Recreation has to continually increase its fees hoping to bring in more money. First the hours of operation were cut then class costs increased, and increased again. The latest one is due to the minimum-wage increase.

Administration doesn’t realize lower fees will bring in more people, which should increase the amounts received. When rates continually increase numbers of people attending go down. Such is the effect of the most recent increase. After more than 35 years of faithful teaching and supporting parks and recreation, the Vancouver USA/SW WA Scottish Country Dance classes at Marshall Center will be stopping after the March-April session. Participants know they can get lessons at the YMCA, Columbia Dance Center, or Portland venues for lower costs.

They will miss the only linoleum-covered, wood-sprung floor in the county. It’s a shame.
