Battle Ground — Students from Battle Ground Public Schools’ Center for Agriculture, Science and Environmental Education program scored a first-place finish last month in a Future Farmers of America forestry career development event. The competition had two parts, an indoor portion where students worked individually to interpret forestry maps and identify trees, tree disorders, equipment and chain saws, and an outdoor portion where students showed off their compass and cruising practicums to learn navigation techniques and to measure trees. The Battle Ground students finished first out of 14 schools in the competition, which was hosted by the Grays Harbor College Forestry and Natural Resources program at the Satsop Business Park in Elma.
