Volunteer Connections provides opportunities through the Human Services Council.

For information on the following and other opportunities, call 360-735-3683.

• Columbia Springs seeks volunteer docents to guide hikes and volunteer leads for outdoor activities and connecting with visitors. They will hold trainings beginning Jan. 28 for docents and Feb. 1 for all other volunteers.

• Friends of the Carpenter offers many opportunities for volunteer hospitality helpers preparing coffee and pastries for their clients.

• Hospice SW seeks volunteers to provide one-on-one companionship to patients in hospice, giving a break to caregivers and loved ones. Volunteers will help with a range of duties including light housekeeping, light meal preparation, supportive tasks, reading, recording life history, music therapy, or running errands.

• Lutheran Community Services Northwest is seeking mentors interested in helping refugees transition into the community. Learn about their culture as they learn about ours through a caring mentorship.

• Marshall Elementary School is looking for food pantry support volunteers to help organize, set up, and distribute food donations to participating families — and to clean up afterward — on the second and fourth Fridays during the school year.

• Vancouver Housing Authority is seeking tutors to assist middle and high school youth once a week in areas of English composition and high school-level math (algebra, geometry, trigonometry) at the Rise and Stars Community Center. The sessions will be on a one-on-one basis.
