Letter: Voices should be heard

I really enjoyed the story about Joey Gibson (“Ascendancy of an activist,” July 2, The Columbian). He has the right to voice his opinions and that right should be celebrated. There is no cause for violence on either side and no cause to not let others speak their piece — it should be part of a meaningful dialogue.

While there are many who may disagree with his voice, it is important that opposing views not be silenced and should be listened to. When we refuse to listen, we refuse the chance to have understanding. It is important that we do our best to understand others’ points of views if our society is going to move forward.

I hope that Gibson keeps up the good work.
