Washougal — Jemtegaard Middle School seventh-grader Adel Cathey was recognized by the Washougal School District office staff for excellence in art after an assignment asked her to work with watercolors. It was her first time working in the medium, and she painted three sunsets. The project gave her confidence to continue working with watercolors at home. “I am a shy person, and art helps me to express myself,” she said in a release from the district. She has been part of the middle school’s art program for years, and plans on continuing with the art program in eighth grade. Throughout the school year, artwork from middle and Washougal High School students rotates on the walls of the district office, as voted on by district staffers.
