Letter: Make America great, respect all

I appreciate the many opinions on the editorial page. We all love the United States, and I am sure so does columnist Leonard Pitts.

I can’t imagine why the writer of the letter “Columnist has a jaded view” (July 7, Our Readers’ Views) would object to him mentioning great leaders like the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. or President Barack Obama. Our country and its freedoms are not just for us “white people” but, indeed, black lives matter, as do all of our citizens and those who seek freedom in our country. We can always make our country better for the members of any race or heritage.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
