Letter: Bill falls prey to politics

I read the July 7 story “Bill to aid homeless failed in Olympia.” This bill, HB 1570, would have prevented a portion of the $48 document recording fee from expiring in 2019. State Rep. Monica Stonier stated, “I think if politics had not gotten in the way of negotiations, we would have seen better policies.” The bill also would have allowed cities to increase the fee and generate more monies for homeless services.

At a time when we in our county are crying out for ways to deal with the homeless problem, this bill offered a good way to continue funding for affordable housing.
