Volunteers are needed to tend volcano trails

Last winter took a toll on trails around Southwest Washington, and the Mount St. Helens Institute and the Washington Trails Association are asking for volunteers to help clean them up at the volcano.

The two groups are collaborating and hosting volunteer trail work parties on some of the Mount St. Helens’ most popular trails. No prior experience is needed, and tools and instructions will be provided. Volunteers age 10 and above are welcome. Those between 10 and 14 need to be accompanied by an adult. Everyone under 18 needs parental consent.

Trail work events on Ptarmigan Trail, the Climbing Route on Mount St. Helens, are planned for Aug. 10, 11, 12, and 13. Volunteers may join for one day, or for all four.

One will also be held at June Lake National Public Land’s Day, Sept. 30.
