Weather Eye: Weekend looks warmer, but nights should remain cool

I cannot say enough about our summer weather that I haven’t said before, downright delightful. Wednesday’s high of 81 degrees at 5 p.m. was exactly “normal” for the date and I hear no complaints.

Even the overnight hours are excellent for sleeping, with lows in the 50s, except Clark County’s outlying areas are dipping into the cool 40s. Tyler Mode of Battle Ground had a low of 48 degrees early Wednesday. He said he has had 10 days now with overnight lows in the 40s.

Still no rainfall for us through Wednesday, so we have gone 33 days without measurable rain. If we do not get measurable rain today from a weak weather front, that will make 34 and we will be on our way to 40 days, as things look rather dry in the extended period.

The weak storm system today was moving through British Columbia and Washington but most of the light moisture associated with it was forecast to fall well north of us. Still, we have a risk of a showers but skies should clear rapidly later on today. If I was a betting man I would say hardly any rain will fall in Vancouver. But I’m not a betting man, not in this business!

After the weather system moves through today high pressure builds and we get close to the “hot” category this weekend — maybe 85 to 90 degrees.

I was thinking since this is such a pleasant summer too bad we couldn’t bottle it up and pop the cork for next summer. Better yet, keep it rolling into autumn and winter. But the downfall of that is most of us are here because we enjoy the change of seasons.
