A vehicle traveling on Northeast 82nd Avenue in Battle Ground sheared off a power pole at the intersection of Northeast 279th Street on Friday evening. No one was injured.

The crash was reported at 6:42 p.m., and Clark Public Utilities District was still working at the scene about two hours later.

A 1971 MG convertible driven by Mark Windus, 65, of Ridgefield was traveling north on 82nd Avenue approaching the intersection with 279th when an eastbound 1987 Ford F-250 pickup began to pull out into the intersection in front of the car, according to Clark County sheriff’s Sgt. Tony Barnes.

The driver of the pickup, Christian Volk, 55, of Battle Ground, stopped before completely entering the intersection, but the MG was traveling at high speed and nicked the front of the pickup. The MG then went across the intersection and crashed into the pole on the left side of the road, Barnes said.

No power lines fell into the road, Barnes said, and it did not appear that anyone had lost power.

The traffic unit was investigating, and it was not yet clear if any citations would be issued.
