My husband and I participated in a telephone town hall by Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, in May. She invited feedback and suggestions by email and said she appreciated our contributions. The following day, I provided suggestions about changes to Social Security that would help shore it up financially.
A month later, with no reply from Herrera Beutler. I re-sent my original email, asking for a reply.
On June 26, we were invited to the next telephone town hall and to contact her local office. I did exactly that — called her local office, left a message about my experience, and asked them to return my call. I have since emailed Herrera Beutler, describing my efforts to contact her by email, phone, and requesting a reply. Still nothing.
Having worked in government, if I had been on the receiving end of this, I would have made this constituent response a priority — not just for today, but now. Being invited to new town halls is offensive at this point. Herrera Beutler does not demonstrate genuine interest in constituent feedback. While I have voted for her previously, I will seriously consider whether to vote for her again, given that she has ignored this constituent multiple times.
