Letter: President doesn’t show respect

On July 10, 15 Marines were killed in a plane crash in Mississippi while serving their country. The commander in chief responded with the following tweet: “Marine Plane crash in Mississippi is heartbreaking. Melania and I send our deepest condolences to all!”

And that’s it. He said nothing more, and did not order flags flown half-mast. According to several of the widows, his administration made no attempt to reach out to any of them. His incompetence is documented each and every day of his presence in the White House, but the absence of respect and gratitude for these Marines and their families is shameful and further supports what appears to be his complete disregard for Americans and our country.

I urge each of you to contact your members of Congress and ask them to demand acknowledgement and respect from the commander in chief. Contact our various veterans’ groups and ask them to address this shameful lack of respect. I then encourage you to send the same request to Fox, CNN and MSNBC.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
