Letter: Make county offices nonpartisan

By Chris Prothero, VANCOUVER

The county’s executive elected offices of auditor, assessor, clerk, prosecuting attorney, treasurer and sheriff need to be made into non-partisan positions. These offices are tasked with executing policies and procedures, most of which are set by state law. So why does partisanship matter to these offices? Will a Republican auditor conduct elections in a different manner than a Democrat? Of course not.

This is an opportunity to remove divisive labels where they are grossly unnecessary in a time when communities need to be coming together for the well-being of all citizens, Left, Right and centrist. Please contact the Board of County Councilors by email, phone or in person to voice your support to have this initiative placed on the November ballot for the voters to make their voices heard and continue to shape how they are governed.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
