A fire destroyed a Hockinson area outbuilding and killed about dozen chicks around noon Wednesday.

Firefighters were called to 21902 N.E. 189th St. shortly after noon.

Clark County Fire District 3 Chief Steve Wrightson said a roughly 25- by 20-foot storage building, which housed some baby chickens, had been burned.

The building was roughly 70 feet from the house, he said, but the fire also damaged another storage structure on the property.

Investigators were looking at a heat lamp for the chicken coop as a possible source of the fire, Wrightson said, but it wasn’t yet clear what caused it.

The Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office was investigating the fire.
