Camas-Washougal headed to Babe Ruth World Series

Beat Calgary 12-2 for Pacific Northwest Regional title

Dominant pitching and some big hits propelled the Camas-Washougal Babe Ruth 13-15-year-old All-Stars to the World Series.

Camas-Washougal beat Calgary 12-2 in six innings Saturday at Rister Field in Kelso to win the Pacific Northwest Regional and a trip to Lawrenceburg, Tenn.

Gideon Malychewski pitched a three-hitter with five strikeouts, and was 3 for 3 with an RBI double at the plate.

The big inning was a seven-run third when Camas-Washougal scored seven runs on four hits. Taylor Shega, who was 3 for 4 with three runs scored, had an RBI triple, Braden Zook and Jackson Gibbs each knocked in a run, and Malychewski had his run-scoring double.

Evan Stott was 3 for 3 with two doubles and two RBI.

To get to the final, Camas-Washougal had to first knockoff undefeated Kelso in the semifinal, which it did 6-1 as Josh Mansur and Beau Kearsey combined on a two-hitter.

Mansur had five strikeouts, and Kearsey had two. Each allowed one hit.

Kelso had won all four of its pool play games, outscoring its opponents 39-6.

Kelso didn’t score until the sixth inning, but Camas-Washougal was already ahead 4-0 at that point and added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Malychewski, Shega, and Logan Kearsey each had two hits. Kearsey had a double and RBI. Stott also had a double.

The Babe Ruth 13-15 World Series runs Aug. 10-17. A gofundme page has been set up to raise funds for the team’s trip. Visit: to contribute.
