Letter: Time to speak out against Trump

I cannot stifle myself any longer. I expect to be roasted by the far right, but am beyond caring. My bumper sticker reads “If You Aren’t Appalled, You Haven’t Been Paying Attention,” but this is no longer amusing.

The list is long: the Russian mess, the documented lies, gutting the line between church and state, making a fool of the USA with boorish actions, gutting social programs, pushing out anyone not agreeing with him and filling important positions with unqualified people, witness the new education head?

I’ve been sitting quietly until reading about our first lady wearing a $51,000 jacket to one of the meetings abroad. What a slap in the face to we common people. That’s roughly the amount I made all year in my working days, and we are middle class.

It appears that, while the former first lady was busy procuring healthy lunches for school children, Melania Trump was shopping for a jacket. Are there people who still believe this administration can understand the working class, let alone the poor? Have they considered the collateral damage? Our national landmarks? The environment? The wall? Alienation of our allies? Impeachment looms. Won’t be too soon for me. Nixon, anyone?

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
