Fire damages Harney Heights home

Two adults, a child and a dog were displaced after a fire damaged a kitchen in the Harney Heights neighborhood Monday evening.

Firefighters were called to a house fire at 3110 E. McLoughlin Blvd. around 6:45 p.m.

Vancouver Fire Department spokesman Pete Adams said firefighters arrived to find a fire in the home’s kitchen.

They were able to get a hose inside and put the fire out fairly quickly, he said.

Although it took only about 5 minutes to douse the flames, firefighters spent another 45 minutes or so trying to ventilate all the smoke, he said.

The fire did not spread into the home’s attic or basement, he said, and was largely confined to the oven and some kitchen cabinets.

No one was hurt, Adams said, and the Red Cross was called to help out the residents.
