More than $600,000 worth of property was stolen from a Vancouver home during a burglary discovered Monday morning.

Homeowners arrived at their house on Southeast Evergreen Highway at about 11 a.m. Monday to find the garage door open and a BMW X5 missing, Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp said.

When they went inside they found that their home had been ransacked — items were turned over, things had been gone through and a window had been broken, Kapp said.

Among the things stolen from the house were jewelry, cash and paintings, which had been cut out of the frames, Kapp said.

While an officer took the information about the stolen property, they learned that police in Gresham, Ore., had recovered the stolen vehicle, Kapp said. It had been towed and was made available for the owners to collect, she added.

No arrests have yet been made, but because of the dollar amount the case has been forwarded to detectives in the agency’s Major Crimes Unit, Kapp said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the agency’s tip line 360-487-7399.
