Washougal — The Hathaway Elementary School Booster Club hosted its Cuts for Kids program, offering free and professional haircuts to students on May 17. Between set-up appointments and walk-ins, stylists provided 35 cuts. The Cuts for Kids program started as an idea from Nell Perry, a member of the booster club. “I was in the family resource office and noticed a couple of boys who were constantly flipping their hair out of their eyes and face,” she said in a release from the district. “It occurred to me that not everyone has access to having their hair cut regularly and professionally, so why not bring them here?” The club started discussing the idea in late 2016, and organized the first event Feb. 1, during which time 33 cuts were provided.
