Scattered showers reached some areas on the big parade route in Portland Saturday but not enough to dampen spirits. We have a chance of more scatted showers today and Monday but most would be over the foothills. Temperatures will remain below seasonal averages.
We have been influenced by a cold trough of low pressure from the Gulf of Alaska which is now sliding eastward. Good news. However, computer forecast models indicate a zonal flow of air off the ocean. This will keep cool temperatures all week and a risk of light rain or showers almost any day. Weather systems will be rather weak but it is possible one could intensify and bring heavier showers. We’ll see how that develops as the week rolls along.
We had some partial clearing Friday evening; did you get a chance to peek at the full Strawberry Moon? Technically it was at its fullest early Friday morning but well enough. Also, Saturn was visible just to the right of the moon. If you expected it to be red like the strawberry, you were disappointed. It was the regular moon color. It does remind me to eat more strawberries, especially as we have local berries in the stores.
I looked at some mountain webcams Saturday and snow was falling almost down to 4,000 feet. The cold air over us has slowed down the snow melt in the upper regions of the Cascades. No indication it is going anywhere too rapidly as we remain cool all this coming week.
