Happy Father’s Day, readers! It looks like it’s going to be a warm, sunny Sunday (if the forecast remains true — I’m writing this the Wednesday prior to Dad-Day), so I predict a run on grilled meats and cool beverages. Whatever it is you do to celebrate your pop, have a grand time!
Speaking of patriarchs, today is a great day to highlight some of the terrific titles the library has regarding papas and grandpas. In this list you’ll find books that are thought-provoking such as “Do Fathers Matter?” by Paul Raeburn. A journalist and father of five, Raeburn uses science to examine the various stages of fatherhood. For a humorous look at all things dad-related try comedian Adam Carolla’s “Daddy, Stop Talking!” I’ve also included a charming picture book “A Perfect Father’s Day” by prolific children’s author Eve Bunting. The delightful story and illustrations capture a four-year-old’s enthusiasm as she guides her dad through a perfect Father’s Day.
Good times, bad times, parents deal with it all. Giving each parent one day a year in which to celebrate his or her awesomeness is better than not recognizing them at all, but it’s important to remember that their love and dedication never stops. Parenthood is a full-time job, so kudos to all who take on this adventure.
Now, go fire up that barbecue!
