Portland – The Oregon Air National Guard’s 142nd Fighter Wing, based at the Portland Air National Guard Base, is hosting fighter jets from the Strike Fighter Squadron 25 of Naval Air Station Lemoore, Calif., today through June 30, to conduct dissimilar air combat training.

The flights will use Portland International Airport daily between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. The training will occur in airspace several miles off the Oregon Coast, according to a news release from the Oregon Military Department.

The training offers realistic combat scenarios to pilots to hone their air tactics.

The 142nd Fighter Wing employs F-15 Eagle fighter jets that guard the skies from California to the Canadian border.

They’re tasked with providing mission-ready units to sustain combat aerospace superiority and peacetime tasking any time, any place locally or nationally.
