Letter: Continue to defend liberty

By Willie Dickerson, Snohomish

Thanks to Greg Jayne for the warning about the death of liberty (“In Our View,” Feb. 26). Citizen participation partnered with truth reported by the media creates a powerful defense of liberty.

Citizens speaking to their representatives is what caused the House to pass the READ Act this year, no matter the deep divides in Congress. This legislation will help America work more efficiently with other countries to give millions of children an opportunity to get an education.

Citizens speaking up resulted in the entire Washington state congressional delegation sending a letter to the president requesting a robust pledge to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

Of course it will be citizens speaking to their representatives that make sure this pledge that was made by the president is funded each of the next three years. So do your part to promote our liberty: Read the paper and speak up to those we elect to represent us!

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
