Portland — A 33-year-old woman was struck and killed by a driver early Sunday in Gresham, police report. Gresham Police officers were called to the area of the 19000 block of Southeast Division Street at 1 a.m. Sunday and upon arrival, determined that the pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle and was dead.

According to police, the driver of the vehicle that struck the pedestrian stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Police say that drugs, alcohol and speed don’t appear to be factors in the accident.

The East County Vehicular Crimes Team is continuing to investigate.

On Thursday, the Portland City Council passed an ordinance that declared a safety emergency on outer Division Street, and lowered the speed limit from 35 to 30 mph on a 4.5-mile stretch from 82nd Avenue to the city border. The action was taken following a series of traffic deaths in the area.
